Transportation in Bergen

The city centre in Bergen is not so big which ensures that most things are within walking distance.
You can also find bus routes in all directions from the city centre. If you want to travel more in regions around Bergen and other parts of Norway you can travel by bus, train, boat or airplane. Below we have listed public transportation in Bergen together with informtaion.
  • Boat: The Bergen seaport is located in the city centre of Bergen with two locations, Vågen and Puddefjorden. The seaport located in Vågen is the one mainly for cruise tourists and is also called “The gateway to the fjords of Norway” with more that 250 cruiseships visiting every year.   • Bergen Airport: Bergen internation Airport is called Flesland. It is situated 20km south of Bergen, 25 min drive from the city center depending of traffic. To get to the airport you can take the airport bus that leaves from Radisson SAS Royal Hotel at Bryggen, or you can take a Taxi but this is much more expensive.
  • Train station: The Bergen train station is the end stop for the railway from Oslo which is a 470km long journey. Often described to be “The World's Finest railway journey”. The trip from Oslo to Bergen takes around six hours. If you take the night train it is possible to get a sleeping cabin. On the tour you will experience a lot of different landscapes like Hardangervidda a mountain plateau with glaciers and snowcapped mountains. The train station is situated in the city center next to the bus station with both local and fast express trains leaving every hour. You can either book tickets online on NSB website, or at NSB's office at the train station.

  • Taxi: There are a lot of Taxis to choose from in Bergen. All of the taxis have meters, and with pleasant drivers who most of them speak fluent English. All Norwegian taxis have a light on the roof and if it’s on you are free to go for a ride, if not someone else has ordered the taxi. There are a number of different taxi companies in Bergen:

  • Bus: In Bergen you find an extensive service of buses that goes in all directions. The Central Bus Station located in the city centre is the starting point for most of the bus rides. All of the buses are marked up front with their destinations and route number.
    When you want the catch a ride you have stand at a bus stop, and remember to reach out your hand when you see your bus approaching because otherwise it will drive right past you.
