Bodø is the transportation hub in northern Norway for both local and regional traffic. It is an easily accessible city from other parts of the country and the distances in the city is relatively short. Local trains, fast boats and good roads are connecting neighboring communities close to Bodø.
Ferries
The port has important ferry links with the rest of the region.
Hurtigruten arrives daily on their journey north at 12:30 and departs at 15:00. When it leaves south again from Kirkenes it arrives at 01:30 at night and depart again at 04:00. If you are on a short trip along the coast the hurtigbåtene a good option. The Nordland Express goes south to Helgeland and Sandnessjøen and north to Steigen and Hamarøy to Svolvær in Lofoten. There are also car ferries to the Lofoten Islands and the surrounding islands. These run daily during the winter months and more frequently in the summer when they are widely used as a tourist route to Lofoten.
Plain
Bodø Airport is located right in city center. There are air connections to major cities such as Oslo, Trondheim, Tromsø, and Bergen. The flying time to Oslo is about one and a half hour. There are also charter flights to holiday destinations in Europe. The airport has direct air connections to 19 destinations.

Train
The ending stop for Nordlandsbanen is in Bodø. It goes both day- and night train to/from Trondheim. This journey takes around 10 hours. They are two daily trains to / from Helgeland. There are also trains between Bodø and Fauske which takes 40 minutes and there are many who use this route to commute to job.

There are a number of different bus companies in Bodø
- Nor-Way Bus Express: These have a connection to Tromsø and Alta.

- The airport bus runs between the center and the airport 1-2 times per hour.
- Local routes run from the center terminal and city buses depart from the bus square.
