Buskerud county

The county covers a total of 21 municipalities and 3 city municipalities; Drammen, Kongsberg and Ringerike. Buskerud extends from Røyken and Hurum by the Oslo Fjord and Drammen Fjord to Hardangervidda and the frontiers against Akershus, Oppland, Oslo, Sogn og Fjordane, Hordaland, Telemark and Vestfold.

Cities & Towns
The largest city in Buskerud is Drammen with over 60 000 inhabitants. The city situated at the end of the Drammen watercourse 40 km southwest of Norway's capital Oslo.
Other cities in the county is Hokksund (approximately 8 000 inhabitants), Hønefoss (approximately 14 000 inhabitants) and Kongsberg (about 25 000 inhabitants). There are also many smaller towns like Ål, Gol, Nes, Lier and Hemsedal ski resort..

Climate
Buskerud has mainly domestic climate since the county is well protected by mountains. Drammen, however, has somewhat milder coastal climate because of its location further south.

Population
Buskerud is a county with large regional differences in population. In the north-western parts of the county, Hallingdal and Numedal with Sigdal and Eggedal and the adjacent mountain routes is a settlement limited to the narrow valleys. Half of the population in the county lives along the Drammen's river valley in the southeast and beyond the Hurum Peninsula. In the south end you find the county's four cities, Drammen, Hokksund, Hønefoss and Kongsberg.

Business
An industry analysis from 2007 shows that business in Buskerud have a higher profitability than the average for the whole country, and it is mainly agricultural, forestry and tourism hat are the main industries.

Tourism
Number of visiting tourists to the county and especially to Drammen has increased considerably in recent years. Gloppholm and Spiralen are the most popular sights.

Infrastructure
European road E16 goes through the entire county on the way from Oslo to the West Coast. The railway system is also well developed and both Bergen- and south railway pass through the county.
