Transportation in Oslo

The city centre in Oslo is easy accessible whether you arrive by plane, car, train, bus, ferry or cruise ship. Revenue consists of bus, tram, subway, train and boat.

Boat
The Oslo Port is an important centre for cargo launching, ferries and cruise ships. The route between Oslo and Kiel is controlled by Norway's largest cruise ferry owner Color Line with their impressive cruise ship Color Fantasy where you can find a 160 meter long shopping street, spa-, fitness center, water park, and eight different restaurants to choose from. There is also the Danish cruise ferry owner DFDS seaway with their ferry that goes from Oslo - Helsingborg (Sweden) - Copenhagen (Denmark). Stena Line also has a direct route between Oslo and Fredrikshavn (Denmark).

Oslo Airport
Oslo international Airport is called Gardermoen. It is located about 50 km north of Oslo. To get to and from the airport you can take regular trains or the Airport Express trains (FlyToget), airport buses (SAS and NOR-WAY) or a taxi. The fastest way to get into the city centre is by Airport Express (20min) but the price is quite expensive (around NOK 150,-). Instead you can take a regular train where the ticket is only about NOK 75,- and the trip takes only about 30min.

Train Station
The train station in oslo is located in the city centre and is that starting point for the cities main street Karl Johan. It is the biggest in Norway with it’s two main buildings, Oslo Ø and the newest building named Oslo S each of the housing a shopping centre. There are trains that go to Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmø in Sweden, the last one with connecting trains to Berlin, Hamburg and Copenhagen. There is also the railway from Oslo to Bergen that is a 470km long journey. Often described to be “The World's finest railway journey”. The trip from Oslo to Bergen takes around six hours. If you take the night train it is possible to get a sleeping cabin. On the tour you will experience a lot of different landscapes like Hardangervidda a mountain plateau with glaciers and snow-capped mountains. Taxi
There are a lot of Taxis to choose from in Oslo. All of the taxis have meters, and with pleasant drivers who most of them speak fluent English. All Norwegian taxis have a light on the roof and if it’s on you are free to go for a ride, if not someone else has ordered the taxi. There are a number of different taxi companies in Oslo:

Bus
An important part of public transportation in Oslo is the buses that mainly go to areas not covered by subway or tram. For more information on bus routes you can visit www.sporveien.no. All of the buses are marked with their destinations and route number.

Metro
The Metro in Oslo is called T-banen and covers the city centre and the suburbs. You can buy tickets on every stop and they can be purchased as single ticket, flexi card (8 trips), 24 hour pass or 7 day pass. Renting a car
Oslo is a transparent city, so it is rather easy to drive a rental car and at the same time having a look around. But you should of course always remember to keep your eyes on the road because even in Norway there can be crazy drivers.
